THE ANSWER:  Whitefirars type Close Concentric on a clear ground.   c.1930.  It used to be believed that this type of paperweight was made c.1848, but recent research has established that they are early 20th C.

Hints:

  • Canes are typical Whitefriars type .
  • Concentric pattern of single types is also typical of Whitefriars.
  • The canes are right at the bottom with only a minimum clear ground below the canes.  The bottom is very concave.  See the enlargement for more detail.  This is a typical Whitefriars type construction.
